BANGKOK, 20 March 2019 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is inviting residents to switch off lights this Saturday between 8:30pm to 9:30pm as part of its bid to conserve energy and reduce consumption by 2,200 megawatts.

The BMA's Jakkapan Phiewngam along with representatives from WWF Thailand, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and public and private agencies expressed their commitment to the hour-long power shutoff on Saturday March 30th.

The BMA is one of the participating organizations in 188 countries that are committed to reducing power consumption. The BMA aims to increase its electricity savings goal from 2,000 megawatts last year to 2,200, valued at around 7.86 million baht.

Places that will be switching off their lights include landmarks such as Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Arun, the Giant Swing, Rama VIII Bridge and the Golden Mountain Temple. The public is invited to take part in the city-wide event.
